This is another of the sets I concepted for Isle of Dogs. Referencing the Sake Bars in the area of Golden Gai in Tokyo, Japan. I built the space in 3D before over painting the design and graphics, construction drawings and were taken from this 3D file following a 1:1 maquette.
There are a number of shots in the two minute scene that takes place in this set. Each shot requiring the architecture to be flexible to its own set up and camera position. Walls and windows needed to be cheated to work in different positions while still interacting with other elements in frame, the bar and key dressing. The walls for example could slide in and out under a floating ceiling that was hung off steel goal posts built outside the set.
You can see in the drawing below how the set would come apart and be reassembled depending on the shot requirement, broken down by sequence number, with a reference storyboard image beside it.
