The location for what would become Hellman Hall in the film needed extensive VFX work to turn it into the grand facade entrance in the story. I created the concept visuals to brief VFX on what both the exterior of the house and the surrounding grounds, terrain and cliff faces would look like when transporting the building to the coastal position required for the action.
We added architectural elements that had to perfectly match and tie in to the building, such as a door from what would be the grand hall set, where we had a wall, to allow the character to run directly to the cliff edge.
Ipswich Manor also required several large interventions and works to be carried out to transform the location into what the story required, including;
- the creation of a hidden safe room that disappeared in to an existing wall,
- the sculpting and moulding of plaster relief panels that could be inserted into alcoved in the wall that would allow for a large swinging stunt impact,
- hanging extensive decorations and calculating dressing quantities for ribbons that would be hanging off the listed chandelier,
all made more complicated by the buildings listed status.
