Working across the four Roald Dahl short films, I helped translate storyboard frames into buildable sets that could fit the available stage space.
For the Jungle Set, the design process separated full-scale, painted backing, sculpted and low-relief elements while testing scale and moving parts before construction.

Being Supervising Art Director on the Series of 4 films that made up the Netflix series of short films Wes Anderson made based on the Roald Dahl books by the same name, meant that I had a hand across all sets on all 4 films.
In the case of the Jungle Set in Henry Sugar I took the storyboard frame drawn by Story Board Artist Jay Clarke, and had to work out the scale of the set pieces in order to see how small stage space we could reduce it down to with all its moving parts.
The images here show Jays Storyboard and the process of separating out the pieces in a basic 3D model, working out which parts of the visual would be painted backing, 3D sculpts or 2.5 D painted or low relief sculpted pieces.
Although these were not concepts used in presenting the design, they were invaluable tools to ensure what we were building would meet the brief and fit on the space we had available.
