This set was the opening scene of Wes Anderson's 9th movie and second stop frame film.
This set was one that I brought from concept art and design right through to construction. The set had most of its action in the middle and deep background, which means making a set that can be taken apart in pieces no larger than what an animator could reach from standing without extending their arms, shooting it in passes and then recombining the set in post production. The set therefor had to be built in a way that allowed from the architecture to split in a way that made sense for filming but also retained full structural integrity.
After several colour passes Wes settled on this green and pink colour way. The still photos don't show it here, but to bring extra life and shine to the set, we under painted most of the greens areas in different tones of gold paint and created a green patina over it, allowing the gold to shine through and catch the light.
